What Are the Precautions when Operating the Double Screw Extruder?

Safety operating procedures for double screw extruder


  • Employees should dress according to regulations. No drinking alcohol or wearing high heels for female workers before going on duty. They should also tie up their hair and put it into the cap to avoid falling down or getting their hair stuck into the equipment.

  • Equipment operators must be trained and qualified before they can operate the equipment. Operating equipment that is not under their jurisdiction or that they are not familiar with is prohibited.

  • Equipment operation must strictly follow the equipment manual.

  • Before starting the double screw extruder, check whether the oil level of the upper and lower shaft gearboxes, the water level of the water-cooled box and the laser marking machine meet the requirements, and the water-cooled box and laser marking machine must be filled with pure water. Check whether the gear and bearing protection cover is complete, whether the feeding belt and feeding port have dry materials attached, and whether the air pressure meets the requirements.

  • When encountering faults during equipment operation and need to stop the equipment to troubleshoot, the equipment must be stopped. If it is necessary to cut off the power supply, the power supply must be disconnected. In addition, a prohibition sign must be hung or supervised by a dedicated person to prevent accidental start-up or closure, which may cause personal injury.

  • After the equipment is powered off, without pulling the baffle or protective measures, nobody should touch the transmission part of the device or the part that may cause personal injury, to prevent the device from restarting suddenly if there is any incoming power.

  • Electrical equipment faults can only be repaired by electricians. Do not touch any buttons with wet hands to prevent electric shock.

  • Before starting the double screw extruder, check whether the upper and lower shaft sleeve screws are loose, whether the sponge is damaged and affects the extrusion quality. Use a level to check whether the lower edge of the material outlet, the feeding belt, the roller, the cutting belt, and the material clip belt are at the same height or whether the belt is running off track. Check whether the limit switch and various power switches are normal, and whether various pressure gauges are normal.

  • It is forbidden to directly look at the outgoing or reflected laser with the naked eye during the start-up process of the laser. To prevent eye injury, protective goggles must be worn while working.

  • Flammable materials cannot be placed on the optical path of the laser marking machine or where the laser beam may shine. If the laser beam irradiates flammable materials, it will cause fires or even explosions.


Precautions for operating the double screw extruder


  • The parameter setting of each heating zone controller must be carried out according to the process requirements. After the heating temperature of each section reaches the set value, it should continue to be insulated. At the same time, it is necessary to confirm whether each section temperature controller and solenoid valve (or cooling fan) are working properly. The oil pump must be started before the motor.

  • The idling speed cannot be too high when there is no feed. Start feeding at the lowest possible speed and match the feeding machine with the main machine speed.

  • The auxiliary feeding device can only be started according to the process requirements after the main machine and the main feeding system operate normally. Generally, the exhaust operation should start after the main machine enters a stable operating state.

  • Before the material bar comes out, the operator should not stand in front of the die. Frequently check whether the nozzle of the double-screw extruder is extruding the material evenly, whether there is any breakage of the material, blockage of the die hole, poor plasticization, or overheating and discoloration phenomenon, and whether the material pressure indication of the nozzle is normal and stable. Every operation should be recorded.
